Although he started drawing and painting at an early age, it was not until after a long career as a businessman that creating pictures became the core of his existence. His life long dream of becoming a full-time artist came to fruition following an inspirational trip to Australia. From that time on travel has been focus on building experience and knowledge for painting. During trips to England, France, Italy, Spain, the United States and the byways of Canada has contributed to his deep passion for painting on location and daily in the studio. About the speed skating art project

The idea for my speed skating paintings came from excitedly noticing how the reflected lights from the ceiling of this beautiful skating oval building sparked off the ice, like stars. It made a surreal capsule that held these powerful athletes as they were practicing their skills of their quest for excellence. It was this 'Stars on Ice' moment that impressed me and I wanted to capture on canvas.

Artist Statement

When I made the move from owning my graphics arts business to becoming a full-time artist, my goal was to become the best artist I could and see where it would lead me. For me, it wasn't retirement but challenging myself in art as if it was another career.

I love the challenge of learning to paint different subjects but I am drawn to figure work, portraits and of course, painting on location... en plein air.

It is such a sense of accomplishment when I see that I have created a good composition when using value, light and contrast in the design even if it might be carried out in the midst of chaos. When drama and interest are created, it is very rewarding, encouraging and motivating. It is amazing how we can be inspired to paint whether it evolves from our imagination or from reality. This choice of subject matter is endless and each day starts with a feeling of excitement of discovery and learning.
