The Story of the Inuksuk
The inuksuk emblem was adopted by Speed Skating Canada for its meaningful symbolism as a guiding beacon in the land of ice and snow used by the Inuit, Inupiat, Kalaallit, Yupik and other peoples of the Arctic. For this reason, SSC has selected the inuksuk to guide its teams towards success on the short track and long track ice at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. For the past two years, each of our speed skating athletes has carried this symbol on the wrist of his/her racing suit symbolizing the journey towards the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.
Speed Skating Canada's inuksuk initiatives will aim to educate the public about the sport of speed skating and create events and activities which will support the Canadian speed skating team in its relentless pursuit of excellence.
