28-Feb-2010 - ENDING ON A HIGH NOTE

This is the very last day. Nothing is expected from speed skating today, we do not have to run from the Oval to the Coliseum, do not have to worry how things will go, if expectations will affect our performances. We will live the last day quietly, or almost. We will hope that all Canadians will do well on their last event, including the hockey players from whom we are expecting a lot. Yesterday, the City of Richmond was hosting a reception for our short and long track skaters. It was a huge success. Coaches and support staff teams have also been presented to the audience. The Gold medal winners of the Man’s Relay Team meet with the Gold medal winners of the Man’s Pursuit team, it was awesome how they shared the pride to be the fastest on ice. An incredible moment to witness and very reassuring to see how they appreciate each other’s struggles and outstanding performances. The last event of our speed skating program provided spectators with a unique and thrilling afternoon. There were amazing races, unpredictable outcomes, broken Olympic records (again!), the excellent performance form our Canadian Female Team in the C finale who had the fastest time of the day and the Gold medal won by Lucas, Denny and Mathieu. Congratulations! I have been lucky with the draw of tickets for the Games and will be at B C Place tonight for the closing Ceremony. I will enjoy the Games up to the very last moment thinking how wonderful it was to be in Vancouver and dreaming how nice it would be to live the Olympic experience in Canada again...
